Chinese New Year falls on February 19 in 2015, and for kids, it’s a great opportunity to be awestruck by Chinese lion dancers as they dart around exploding firecrackers and drums. But for Ching and Linda Tan, who both studied Industrial Design at Swinburne, it’s also an opportunity to teach children about some of China’s rich culture.
Enter Kwan the Chinese Lion.
Using crowdfunding website Kickstarter, the Tans are launching a DIY cardboard kit designed to inspire and teach children about Chinese Lion Dancing. Included with each kit is an introduction booklet and access to an online portal, both of which would help children experience a more interactive approach to Chinese culture through lion dancing (firecrackers not included).
However, Kwan needs your support to reach the Kickstarter goal of $30,000, and rewards start at $10. Celebrate the Chinese New Year by supporting Ching and Linda’s project.
